Leaving for Taipei

So,.. on the bus with the full crew. 16 of us. Everyone is super excited. We’re heading from our staging hotel in San Francisco to SFO for our flight to Taipei and then Bali.

The last couple of days have been orientation/staging at the hotel in San Francisco . It’s been Informative and Britany was a fantastic Facilitator. We mostly worked on recapping on some of the basics of peace corps service and core values.

We also did a bunch of team building and getting to know everybody. The Volunteers in the cohort I’m part of are awesome!! Already I see the amazing personalities and talent. Not a huge racial diversity in our group, but socially there is a lot of diversity. I’m in awe of these talented  and cultured people.

I managed one last run in San Francisco early in the morning. I caught the beautiful sun rise at the bay 👍. See you again in a couple of years.

The bag packing “situation/quantity” varied massively between volunteers ( in a later post I will list all I brought in my mammouth 2 checked and 1 carry on). I brought 7 pairs of shoes 😂 and another volunteer, Chris, also brought 7 😂 . I think Chris and I have a lot in common 😊 and will get on well!

I think the plane may need super unleaded to get off the ground 😊 (at least with my bags).

I feel old. I have to admit and I hate to bring it up …. 😔. I’m 25 years, or more, older than most here. I’d be lying if it was not praying on my mind.  I’m trying my best to put it at the back of my mind. During our last day of orientation I mentioned I had a 22 year old son as part of one of our exercises.. and I think it visibly surprised some of the volunteers.

Flight from SFO to Taipei left at 1:10am. We made it to the departure gate…

one passport lost and found from our team and a pair of shoes and laptop in my hands due to an overweight carry on…

so a little drama…

but we got there. I made one last call to our coordinator, Ben, that everyone boarded the plane. And we were off!!!
